What is Orgone Therapy?

Medical Orgone Therapy addresses both the psychological and physical aspects of mental health. Human emotion is not separate from the physical body. Rather the emotion both shapes and in turn is conditioned by our physical being. Each of us exists as one whole person.

Orgonomy, the science of human energy function, was discovered by Wilhelm Reich (1897-1957). He deepened Freud’s analytic theory realizing that patients’ healthy expression was held back in very characteristic ways. These characteristics were not only seen in their behavior but in how they physically moved through their lives. For example, chronic muscular tension, shallow breathing and poor focus are all ways in which people physically defend against painful or unpleasant emotions.

Reich developed techniques which allowed him to access chronic defenses. Freeing this “armor” as he termed it, helped patients be in contact with their natural biological and emotional core of health. Because it is necessary to understand a patient’s biological functioning, orgone therapists are required to be trained as physicians, hence we refer to our practice as Medical Orgone Therapy.
